--- slug: quasicrystal-diffraction passed: 2026-10-01 by: the assay line (research/assay-line/trial-1001/), Codex fixer directed by claude-assaying-codex-0929; source record by Codex, checked by Codex and a Claude agent checked: 158 confirmed: 143 wrong: 13 # all 13 are MINOR lines; there are no WRONG lines unverifiable: 0 observed: 0 stale: 2 --- This pass applied the directing instance's 17-item triage to the authored quasicrystal-diffraction layer at 3fa55eb20c8c19ef0ac15a2348db5f8bba45d8bb. The fixer re-read each item's evidence before editing, reran the instrument without rendering images, and consolidated the Codex source record and the existing Codex and Claude checker rereads. The 141 additional CONFIRMED lines carry those earlier rereads forward with their sources; they are not a claim that this fixer independently reopened every unrelated source. The triage supersedes the four Codex-only confirmations for K2, K5, K6 and K7, and X2 supersedes the earlier px-label confirmation. The two rejected findings remain CONFIRMED; listed findings remain MINOR with the directing reasons. Counts put all 13 MINOR lines under wrong, without treating them as WRONG findings. One authored-source fix is incomplete at the generated publication boundary: X2's public verifier copy still needs the shared publisher. No MINOR correction line was added to the page. ## Claims - MINOR | [X1] The green values are recomputed after every control change. | public/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction/index.html | The blur, noise and label listeners only redraw; radius, offset, tolerance and view listeners call updateDeep. Re-read the listeners and recreated the redraws with model arrays unchanged. The page now says rotation and model values update with their inputs, and names the offline determinant check. - MINOR | [X2] 30 noncentral points, 18°, 26.79 px RMS | public/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction/index.html; research/quasicrystal-diffraction/verify-quasicrystal-diffraction.mjs | The renderer scales coordinates by min(width,height)/300, but the residual is computed before scaling. Recreated 26.787622684578068 model units, or 37.50267175840929 display pixels at 420 by 420. Both static and both dynamic page readouts, plus both authored verifier console labels, now say model units. The generated public/checks copy still says px; its refresh requires the excluded shared publisher and manifest. NOT FIXED in full. - STALE | [X3] NIST, The Nobel Moment: Dan Shechtman, updated 31 August 2021. | https://web.archive.org/web/20260729213439/https://www.nist.gov/nist-and-nobel/dan-shechtman/nobel-moment-dan-shechtman; https://www.nist.gov/nist-and-nobel/dan-shechtman/nobel-moment-dan-shechtman | Re-fetched the 29 July 2026 capture: its footer gives 31 August 2021. The live footer gives 1 September 2026. The citation and README now use the live date; one Updated 2026-10-01 line dates the earlier metadata on the page, mirrored at the end of the markdown body. - MINOR | [K1] The green values are recomputed after every control change. | public/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction/index.html; research/quasicrystal-diffraction/verify-quasicrystal-diffraction.mjs | The module determinant is static HTML with no id; the browser does not calculate a determinant. The independent verifier computes its absolute value as 1.000000000000. The same sentence as X1 now distinguishes input-driven values from the offline check. - CONFIRMED | [K2] A finite patch cannot prove global aperiodicity. | https://arxiv.org/pdf/math/0002020; public/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction/index.html | REJECTED with evidence. Moody section 3 describes the infinite model-set condition, not a finite-patch theorem. Independently, any finite point patch fits inside a box whose sufficiently separated lattice translates form a periodic set with the same patch. Thus the finite observation cannot decide global aperiodicity. The page is true; the earlier excerpt was weak support. - MINOR | [K3] The translation report tests a named finite set of shifts on interior sites only. | public/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction/index.html | Re-read bestTranslation: shifts go from the site nearest the origin to another site, with 0.2 < length < 1.8. Each tested source satisfies norm(source) <= 2.5 - length - 1e-9; candidates need at least 7 sources. The page now states that exact selection, including the inward margin. - MINOR | [K4] Offline reproduction: node research/quasicrystal-diffraction/verify-quasicrystal-diffraction.mjs | research/quasicrystal-diffraction/verify-quasicrystal-diffraction.mjs; https://artwaste.land/checks/research/quasicrystal-diffraction/verify-quasicrystal-diffraction.mjs | Re-ran the repository verifier: 55 checks. Downloaded the published script and ran it without the page: 30 checks. The existsSync(htmlPath) branch skips 9 default-attribute and 16 anchor checks. The command note and README now state both counts and the required page path. - MINOR | [K5] Bennett and colleagues found the NMR spectrum of the icosahedral Al-Mn phase differed from the cubic G phase used in Pauling's proposal; they noted twinning should scarcely alter NMR away from boundaries. | https://www.nature.com/articles/326372a0 | Re-read the full abstract. It compares the crystalline G phase, whose Mn sites have Al-icosahedron surroundings shared with the proposed structure, with the icosahedral phase. It does not identify G as the phase used in the proposal. Replaced that clause with the shared local surroundings; retained the boundary qualification for NMR. Used crystalline, the abstract's description, without needing a separate cubic-phase source. - MINOR | [K6] The IUCr executive report says the committee and its terms were approved in April 1991. | https://journals.iucr.org/a/issues/1992/06/00/es0177/es0177.pdf (printed p. 928) | The Executive Committee approved establishment of the Commission on Aperiodic Crystals on an ad interim basis in April 1991. The following text supplies its terms of reference. The page now names that action and those bodies; it no longer says that a committee and its terms were approved. - MINOR | [K7] The page claims only that this particular mathematical model is aperiodic in the cited infinite construction and has sharp module diffraction. | https://arxiv.org/pdf/math/0002020; public/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction/index.html | Re-read section 3 and Theorem 12, with the regular-window definition. The star map is injective here: separating rational and irrational coefficients in the three internal-projection equations forces all six integer coordinates to zero. A sphere has boundary measure zero. Added the missing survey citation to the sentence, footer and README. This supports the infinite continuation, not a proof from the finite crop. - STALE | [K8] NIST, The Nobel Moment: Dan Shechtman, updated 31 August 2021. | https://web.archive.org/web/20260729213439/https://www.nist.gov/nist-and-nobel/dan-shechtman/nobel-moment-dan-shechtman; https://www.nist.gov/nist-and-nobel/dan-shechtman/nobel-moment-dan-shechtman | Same dated metadata as X3. Independently fetched the July capture and current source before editing. One shared Updated line is used on the page, with its markdown mirror; no Corrected line was added. - MINOR | [K9] Measured too: changing a figure in this page's printed text turned it red. | research/verifier-independence/mutation-coupled-0.json; scripts/check-placard.mjs | NOT FIXED, listed as MINOR. Re-read this layer's two prose records: 20 to 21 was detected (mutatedExit 1), while 1992 to 1993 was undetected (mutatedExit 0). Triage reason: the placard generator writes this from a mutation file that also holds an undetected mutation; this is a library-wide class left for that fix. - MINOR | [K10] This page makes the same honesty move for a cut-and-project set: the finite translation search is operable, but global aperiodicity remains a cited result. | src/content/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction.md; public/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction/index.html; https://arxiv.org/pdf/math/0002020 | The relates note is authored in this layer's frontmatter and says the global result is cited. Adding Moody to this page supplies the missing citation, as in K7. Its wording is now supported without changing the note or the generated copy on another layer. - MINOR | [K11] Uncertainties and free choices, all of them: | public/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction/index.html | The disclosed list omits choices used by reciprocalGrid, modulePeaks, bestTranslation and reconstructionSpots. Removed only the completeness claim all of them. The grid, cutoffs and radii are unchanged. - CONFIRMED | [K12] The photograph alone has a twin. | public/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction/index.html; https://www.nist.gov/nist-and-nobel/dan-shechtman/nobel-moment-dan-shechtman | REJECTED with evidence. The preceding paragraph explicitly asks the reader to press align at 36 degrees. Recreated foil residuals below 1.4e-14 model units for each of its three ring settings at that angle. It passes the stated test. Its extra 18-degree symmetry does not refute this limited example; NIST also describes the twinning ambiguity. No claim of identical patterns is needed. - MINOR | [K13] (added) the translation readout at small windows: "best nonzero tested shift matches 0 of 0 interior sites, 0.0%" | public/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction/index.html | Recreated all 143 allowed radius/offset settings. At 16 settings there is no candidate with at least 7 interior sources; the old readout reported 0 of 0 and 0.0%. The minimum site count is 35, so saying there are no sites would overstate the evidence. The new metric says not tested and the detail says no candidate shift has at least 7 interior sites to test. Rechecked all 16 messages and restoration of the default 7/13 readout. - MINOR | [K14] The verifier checks the page only through nine data-default attributes and 16 anchor strings (claims-pass step 6: 8 of 10 one-figure mutations of the visible text stayed green) | research/quasicrystal-diffraction/verify-quasicrystal-diffraction.mjs; research/assay-line/trial-1001/quasicrystal-diffraction/N2-claude.md | NOT FIXED, listed as MINOR. Re-read the verifier's 9 attribute checks and 16 string anchors, and the checker's step-6 results, including 8 of 10 visible-number mutations that stayed green. Triage reason: the approved library-wide gate binding figures in sentences to data addresses this class; it is listed here, not redesigned per layer. - CONFIRMED | date: 2026-07-30 | git show 60c91d8037:src/content/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction.md | Checker reread retained: frontmatter-date: frontmatter reads date: 2026-07-30; first committed 2026-07-29 +1000 as date: 2026-07-29 and re-dated in 73a5b81905 when the wave crossed a UTC day (memory/log.d/2026-07-30-the-thing-that-ended-the-argument.md) - CONFIRMED | "datePublished":"2026-07-30" | git show 60c91d8037:public/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction/index.html | Checker reread retained: structured-publication-date: JSON-LD "datePublished":"2026-07-30", matching the frontmatter - CONFIRMED | "dateModified":"2026-10-01" | public/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction/index.html | structured-modification-date: the fixer set the Article modification date to this pass date; datePublished remains 2026-07-30. - CONFIRMED | Rotate a reconstruction of Shechtman's forbidden spots, test whether a periodic lattice can own them, then build a six-index icosahedral model and diffract its higher-dimensional cut. | git show 60c91d8037:public/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction/index.html | Checker reread retained: bench-summary: setFivefoldTrace, drawSpotPlate (rotating reconstructionSpots against itself) and updateDeep (six-index cut, Fourier sums) do what the dek says - CONFIRMED | You can rotate a reconstruction of the tenfold spot pattern, test the restriction on repeating lattices, then build and diffract a six-coordinate cut-and-project set. | git show 60c91d8037:public/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction/index.html | Checker reread retained: plain-summary: each operation exists in the page script - CONFIRMED | The page separates its mathematical models from the published experimental record. | git show 60c91d8037:public/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction/index.html | Checker reread retained: model-record-separation: Layers 1 and 2 and the check panel are separate from "The record, in order" - CONFIRMED | It computes the periodic restriction, a six-coordinate cut-and-project set, direct Fourier intensities, competing screen fits, and a finite translation search live in the browser. | git show 60c91d8037:public/strata/quasicrystal-diffraction/index.html | md-live-computations: updateDeep computes the cut-and-project set, grid Fourier sums, bravaisFit and bestTranslation when model inputs or the view change. One sentence also answers K1. - [fixed] X2: All four authored page readouts and both authored verifier RMS labels now use model units. This finding records the authored fix only: the generated published verifier copy remains unchanged because its publisher also changes the excluded shared manifest, so the full item outcome is NOT FIXED in full. - [dated] X3: Updated the NIST citation and added Updated 2026-10-01 with the observed July footer and the current footer; mirrored the line at the end of the markdown body. Shared page line with K8. - [fixed] K1: The determinant is explicitly described as checked offline; the existing value remains 1.000000. Same sentence as X1. - [fixed] K3: Named the candidate shifts, strict length limits, physical interior margin and seven-site minimum used by bestTranslation. - [fixed] K4: Added the 55 repository / 30 standalone / 25 skipped-page-check distinction beside the command and in the README. - [fixed] K5: Replaced G phase used in the proposal with the shared Mn-centred Al-icosahedron surroundings stated by Bennett's abstract. - [fixed] K6: Named the Executive Committee's approval of the Commission's establishment on an ad interim basis in April 1991. - [fixed] K7: Linked Moody's survey from the infinite-construction sentence and added its section 3 and Theorem 12 to the footer and README. - [dated] K8: The same NIST Updated line as X3 dates the 31 August 2021 metadata to the 29 July 2026 capture and reports the current 1 September 2026 footer. - [declined] K9: Listed MINOR as directed. The generator writes the placard from a record with both detected and undetected mutations; the triage leaves this library-wide class for the shared fix. - [fixed] K10: The Moody citation added for K7 now supports the unchanged frontmatter relates note about the cited global result. No other layer was edited. - [fixed] K11: Removed only all of them from the uncertainty heading; the apparatus no longer claims an exhaustive list. - [fixed] K13: Guarded both translation readouts on tested sites, with not tested and the precise seven-interior-site explanation for the empty eligible search. - [declined] K14: Listed MINOR as directed. The approved library-wide figure-binding gate is the triage's remedy; the 9-attribute/16-anchor verifier was not redesigned. ## Outcomes | Item | Outcome | Evidence or remaining work | | --- | --- | --- | | X1 | FIXED | The blur, noise and label listeners only redraw; radius, offset, tolerance and view listeners call updateDeep. Re-read the listeners and recreated the redraws with model arrays unchanged. The page now says rotation and model values update with their inputs, and names the offline determinant check. | | X2 | NOT FIXED in full; authored fix made | The renderer scales coordinates by min(width,height)/300, but the residual is computed before scaling. | | X3 | FIXED, dated | Re-fetched the 29 July 2026 capture: its footer gives 31 August 2021. The live footer gives 1 September 2026. The citation and README now use the live date; one Updated 2026-10-01 line dates the earlier metadata on the page, mirrored at the end of the markdown body. | | K1 | FIXED | The module determinant is static HTML with no id; the browser does not calculate a determinant. The independent verifier computes its absolute value as 1.000000000000. The same sentence as X1 now distinguishes input-driven values from the offline check. | | K2 | REJECTED with evidence | REJECTED with evidence. | | K3 | FIXED | Re-read bestTranslation: shifts go from the site nearest the origin to another site, with 0.2 < length < 1.8. Each tested source satisfies norm(source) <= 2.5 - length - 1e-9; candidates need at least 7 sources. The page now states that exact selection, including the inward margin. | | K4 | FIXED | Re-ran the repository verifier: 55 checks. Downloaded the published script and ran it without the page: 30 checks. The existsSync(htmlPath) branch skips 9 default-attribute and 16 anchor checks. The command note and README now state both counts and the required page path. | | K5 | FIXED | Re-read the full abstract. | | K6 | FIXED | The Executive Committee approved establishment of the Commission on Aperiodic Crystals on an ad interim basis in April 1991. The following text supplies its terms of reference. The page now names that action and those bodies; it no longer says that a committee and its terms were approved. | | K7 | FIXED | Re-read section 3 and Theorem 12, with the regular-window definition. | | K8 | FIXED, dated | Same dated metadata as X3. Independently fetched the July capture and current source before editing. One shared Updated line is used on the page, with its markdown mirror; no Corrected line was added. | | K9 | NOT FIXED, listed | NOT FIXED, listed as MINOR. | | K10 | FIXED | The relates note is authored in this layer's frontmatter and says the global result is cited. Adding Moody to this page supplies the missing citation, as in K7. Its wording is now supported without changing the note or the generated copy on another layer. | | K11 | FIXED | The disclosed list omits choices used by reciprocalGrid, modulePeaks, bestTranslation and reconstructionSpots. Removed only the completeness claim all of them. The grid, cutoffs and radii are unchanged. | | K12 | REJECTED with evidence | REJECTED with evidence. | | K13 | FIXED | Recreated all 143 allowed radius/offset settings. | | K14 | NOT FIXED, listed | NOT FIXED, listed as MINOR. | ## Dated lines No Corrected line was added. There were no WRONG findings. The only dated public note is the STALE NIST update, shared by X3 and K8. The only numerical replacement is the NIST revision date, taken from the live NIST footer after verifying the old date in the archived capture. Kortan, Chen, and Waszczak reported Laue X-ray diffraction from a millimetre-size Al-Li-Cu single quasicrystal, direct icosahedral point symmetry, and peaks indexable with six indices. Bennett and colleagues found the NMR spectrum of the icosahedral Al-Mn phase differed from the cubic G phase used in Pauling's proposal; they noted twinning should scarcely alter NMR away from boundaries.

Searches found no applicable AGENTS.md and no layer build/generator. The authored HTML therefore received the page edits directly. Reading scripts/publish-checks.mjs established that its mutating mode copies all checks and writes the shared manifest/index; it has no per-layer publishing mode. A lookup for scripts/check-bundles.mjs returned no such file. No publisher mutation was run. Source requests: the web tool opened the live NIST history, Bennett abstract, Moody PDF and IUCr report PDF successfully. The archive request through the web tool failed; Python urllib fetched the exact 29 July capture with HTTP 200, and gzip decompression exposed its footer. Python also fetched the live NIST source and the published verifier with HTTP 200. Requests contained no contact address or personal client information. The archived and live NIST HTML and the downloaded verifier are in /tmp/quasicrystal-diffraction-1001-fixer/ for this workspace review. The unmodified downloaded verifier passed 30 checks without the page. The layer verifier passed 55 checks before and after the source changes. The probe executed the actual inline script with no-op drawing calls; it rendered no image. Before and after, all 143 settings agreed with an independently enumerated eligible shift set, including the 16 empty eligible searches; minimum site count was 35. After the fix, all 16 empty-search messages were checked, along with the default 7/13 readout and reset. The model residual stayed 26.787622684578068; the corresponding 420-pixel drawing scale would give 37.50267175840929 pixels. At 36 degrees all three foil ring settings had residuals below 1.4e-14 model units. Blur, noise and label changes preserved the model arrays. `git diff --check` found no whitespace errors. `node scripts/check-claims-pass.mjs` exited 0: `claims-pass: 181 layer(s) since 2026-09-27, or back-audited, carry a sound record.` This includes the new record's 158 claims: 143 CONFIRMED, 13 MINOR counted under wrong, and 2 STALE. There are 0 WRONG lines and 15 findings. A record passing this structural gate does not erase the incomplete generated copy reported under X2. ## Not done - X2 is NOT FIXED in full: public/checks/research/quasicrystal-diffraction/verify-quasicrystal-diffraction.mjs:308 and :309 still print px. This is the generated verifier mirror. Refreshing it through scripts/publish-checks.mjs also updates shared files, including public/checks/manifest.json (its byte count changes from 13368 to 13386). The user's scope excludes shared-file edits; refreshing only the mirror would leave the manifest's published byte count false. That publication step was left for the directing instance. The authored source is fixed. The generated mirror and manifest were not edited. - K9 and K14 remain listed MINOR findings under the directing instance's library-wide fixes; the placard wording and verifier's broad figure coverage were not redesigned. - No other layer or shared file was edited. No global build, package installation, placard mutation, oversight derivation, Git write, media rendering, deployment or publication was performed. The frontmatter relates note now has its missing source on this layer; the copy on another layer needs no wording change.
