# Claims pass: Six Hundred and Seven
Live page: not deployed yet; step 2 skipped.
Reader check (pre-deploy, local copies): `AW_DIR=
node verify-six-hundred-and-seven.mjs` (run from a second empty directory holding only the verifier): exit 0, 488 passed, 0 failed (inside the repository: 579 passed, 0 failed; `--mutate`: 6 failed, exit 1, as it should). Step 6: in a scratch copy, the sentence "Its five Light Brigade rows add up to 157 killed of all ranks" changed to 167 made the verifier fail (exit 1, 486 passed, 2 failed: the sentence check and the residual sweep); changing only the visible dek's 198 to 189 also failed (3 checks: summary, meta copies, JSON-LD). The page prints no transcript of the verifier's own output. Mutation sweep: `six-hundred-and-seven: 510 mutated, 510 caught, 0 survived (text 0, meta 0, year 0)`.
Fix round 2 (2026-11-02, the fixer, after re-reading each source): the three MINOR findings below were re-checked against the live sources (the Gazette 21628 data.pdf text layers for pp. 3506, 3507, 3508, 3510 and 3511; chargeofthelightbrigade.com/index3.html; nam.ac.uk/explore/battle-balaklava) and all three held; each is fixed at source. The claim lines below keep the pass's own words and verdicts, so three of them quote wording the page no longer carries. After the fixes: `node verify-six-hundred-and-seven.mjs` 579 passed, 0 failed (from an empty directory with AW_DIR: 488 passed, 0 failed; with house blocks, beacon, pulse and assay script appended: 488 passed, and a planted 167 still fails it); `--mutate` exit 1, 6 failed; mutation sweep `six-hundred-and-seven: 510 mutated, 510 caught, 0 survived (text 0, meta 0, year 0)`.
`assay/sources.mjs six-hundred-and-seven --online`: 24 FOUND, 51 UNREADABLE, 24 NOT FOUND, 35 in the repository, 12 PARTIAL. Every UNREADABLE, NOT FOUND and PARTIAL entry was read by eye from the source itself on 2026-11-02: the Gazette PDFs (pp. 3455 to 3459 and 3503 to 3511) rendered at 220 dpi; the Daily National Intelligencer through the LOC IIIF image server (loc.gov resource pages answer 403; the issue's image 0399 carries the masthead WASHINGTON: WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 1854, so 0400 is p. 2); the memoir from archive.org page image n426 and both volumes' text layers (the djvu download answered 200 this time); The Examiner of 9 December and 18 November from the archive.org PDFs; Calthorpe, Russell and Kinglake from archive.org page images. The NOT FOUNDs are all OCR damage (the Examiner and Calthorpe text layers) or excerpts taken from images (bookplate, title pages) or from an HTML table (Wikipedia); none is a missing passage. Every 17 November list was counted a third time, name by name, from fresh renders and agrees with data.json, the kept transcription and the scout's count.

- MINOR | Each quotation on this page is in quotes.json beside it, with its source and the kept copy it was checked against. | public/strata/six-hundred-and-seven/quotes.json | Every quotation is there and matches, but six of the seven Gazette 21628 entries give .../page/3507/data.pdf as source although they are printed on p. 3506 (g17-oct25, g17-killed), p. 3508 (g17-unseen), p. 3510 (g17-prisoners) and p. 3511 (g17-clowes, g17-chadwick); see Findings
## Findings
- [fixed] MINOR: quotes.json gave https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/21628/page/3507/data.pdf as the source of all seven Gazette 21628 quotations, though six are printed on other pages. Re-read on the live data.pdf text layers (2026-11-02): "October 25." and "4TH DRAGOON GUARDS." with "KILLED." under it are on p. 3506; "4TH. LIGHT DRAGOONS." with "KILLED OR MISSING." under it on p. 3507; "Sent on board ship" on p. 3508; "Return of' Prisoners .taken by^ the Russians" (OCR as printed in the text layer) on p. 3510; "Cornet George Clowes" and "Lieutenant John Chadwick" on p. 3511, as the kept transcription's page markers also say. research/six-hundred-and-seven/build-quotes.mjs now has one source per printed page (g17h 3506, g17 3507, g17u 3508, g17p 3510, g17p11 3511), each with its own "where" (p. 3506 and so on), and quotes.json was rebuilt from it (`--check` agrees): g17-oct25 and g17-killed cite p. 3506, g17-km p. 3507, g17-unseen p. 3508, g17-prisoners p. 3510, g17-clowes and g17-chadwick p. 3511. No quotation text changed.
- [fixed] MINOR: the Sources list cited the Boys page as "E J Boys: a biography", a title the scout wrote and the page does not carry. Re-read: the live page (WebFetch, 2026-11-02) opens "Edward James Boys - a biography" under the header "LIVES OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE" / "The E.J. Boys Archive", and the scout's raw copy has Edward James Boys - a biography . The citation now reads "Lives of the Light Brigade: the E. J. Boys Archive, Edward James Boys - a biography, chargeofthelightbrigade.com/index3.html, read 1 November 2026. Quoted briefly." in public/strata/six-hundred-and-seven/index.html, the verifier's CITES copy, quotes.json's boys-2600 "where" (via build-quotes.mjs), the source record entries boys ("where") and cite-boys (claim, and an excerpt that now carries the title: "Edward James Boys - a biography Home Search Index of men A-Z LIVES OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE The E.J. Boys Archive", found in the kept copy), the README's source table and the kept copy's header line.
- [fixed] MINOR: "Follows Kinglake for the 673 and the 475" (the museum card) and "The 673 and the 475 are Kinglake's" (the page) said the museum took its figures from Kinglake. Re-read the live NAM page (2026-11-02): its Key fact reads "Around 260 men of the Light Brigade’s 673 were killed or wounded, and 475 horses were lost. Total British casualties were around 615." and the page names no source and does not mention Kinglake; the only evidence is that 673 and 475 equal Kinglake vol. IV p. 357 ("which numbered 673 horsemen"; "the brigade had 475 horses killed"). engine.mjs's card note now reads "Gives the same 673 and 475 as Kinglake; its killed and wounded is rounder and larger than his." and index.html reads "The 673 and the 475 are also Kinglake's figures; the 260 is not his 247, and the museum's page does not say where it comes from." The verifier's sentence check and its card-note check follow the new words (the note still carries only 673 and 475), and the source record entries card-nam and nam-nosource carry the new claims, with notes saying the page asserts only that the figures are the same.
