All six triage items were decided, saved and validated before any layer edit. The fixer reread the local evidence, reproduced the default contact walk and two control matrices, then applied the supported changes. The 173 CONFIRMED claims and 35 OBSERVED claims below retain the evidence attributed to the N2 Codex checker at a77c45dd68 in research/assay-line/queue-1018/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/N2-codex.md; revised chamber labels are recorded in their current wording. External sources were not independently fetched again during this fix pass. N1-sources.json and N2-codex.md remain the original evidence records. ## Claims - CONFIRMED | Build an exact lattice packing from its Gram matrix in every dimension from 1 through 24 | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [lead-construction] N2 checker: The pinned construction selector and independent rerun supply Z, A2, A3, D_n, E8 and Leech matrices across all 24 dimensions. All 24 independently recomputed densities agree; reproduce.mjs and reproduced.json retain the run. - CONFIRMED | Boaz Klartag's peer-reviewed 2026 proof | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [lead-peer-review] N2 checker: The publisher names Boaz Klartag, gives acceptance on 22 February 2026 and publication on 4 March 2026, volume 244, pages 1251-1279. Read the full publisher article with curl after the online checker returned UNREADABLE. - CONFIRMED | The browser derives shortest vectors, covolume, ball volume, packing density, contact equations, and the finite lattice search cutoff live, while the unknown universal constant stays visibly unknown. | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [lead-computations] N2 checker: Read packingStats, renderPacking, inspectEllipsoid, renderEllipsoid and seedChecks; reproduced their initial, dimension and frozen outputs. The hypothetical constant is labelled separately from the theorem. - CONFIRMED | This page measures how tightly a set of equal balls fits when their centres follow exact repeating patterns. You can change the dimension, inspect every calculation, and move an ellipse while the page checks whole-number grid points with a stated numerical tolerance. | public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html; git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [plain-description] Fixer: current wording makes the unchanged 1e-7 predicate explicit; the shipped renderer and default walk were rerun. N2 checker on the original wording: The dimension input, lattice construction, exhaustive enumeration and ellipse controls work in the pinned JavaScript. The strict boundary wording needs the tolerance qualification identified under forbidden-integer-points; the initial state is strictly lattice-free. - CONFIRMED | The interactive page is the artifact. It computes exact-construction packing certificates and a constrained ellipsoid chamber live at `/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/`. | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [artifact-description] N2 checker: The href resolves HTTP 200 and the two live inline programs are byte-identical to the pinned programs. All 24 construction calculations and the default chamber run were recreated locally. - CONFIRMED | Announced on arXiv in 2025 | https://arxiv.org/abs/2504.05042 | [announcement] N2 checker: The arXiv submission history records v1 on 7 April 2025 at 13:09:05 UTC. The author and title match the journal article. - CONFIRMED | accepted and published in Inventiones Mathematicae in 2026. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [publication] N2 checker: The publisher names Boaz Klartag, gives acceptance on 22 February 2026 and publication on 4 March 2026, volume 244, pages 1251-1279. Read the full publisher article with curl after the online checker returned UNREADABLE. - CONFIRMED | A Gram matrix tells the browser every squared distance inside a lattice. | https://math.leidenuniv.nl/scripties/BachVanWoerden.pdf | [gram-distances] N2 checker: Read the downloaded PDF, printed p. 3: G consists of basis inner products. For integer coefficients z, squared norm is z^T G z; differences of lattice points are lattice points. The source excerpt is present in extracted text. - CONFIRMED | The page proves a shortest vector by complete Cholesky branch-and-bound, halves its length for the sphere radius, derives the fundamental-cell volume from the determinant, and divides one ball by one cell. | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [packing-method] N2 checker: Read the complete Cholesky recursion, integer quadratic-form evaluation and packingStats. The 431-assertion verifier passes, including independent brute force in dimensions 1-8 and exact determinants; the named lattice minima agree with catalogue data and the D_n construction. Floating arithmetic is disclosed on the page. - CONFIRMED | exact Gram data | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [gram-data-label] N2 checker: Compared all 644 A2, E8 and Leech Gram entries with the downloaded catalogue records. Z, A3 and D_n entries follow their integer root-basis formulas. - CONFIRMED | complete search | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [complete-search-label] N2 checker: Read the complete Cholesky recursion, integer quadratic-form evaluation and packingStats. The 431-assertion verifier passes, including independent brute force in dimensions 1-8 and exact determinants; the named lattice minima agree with catalogue data and the D_n construction. Floating arithmetic is disclosed on the page. - CONFIRMED | half the centre distance | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [radius-rule] N2 checker: The code says "var radius = centreDistance / 2;". Independently checked radii 1/2, sqrt(2)/2 and 1 against the corresponding minimum norms 1, 2 and 4. - CONFIRMED | covolume is its square root | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [covolume-rule] N2 checker: The code says "var covolume = Math.sqrt(det);". For a basis B, det(B^T B) = det(B)^2, so this is the fundamental-cell volume. - CONFIRMED | Ball volume | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [volume-gamma] N2 checker: Read ballVolume and gammaHalfInteger. Independently recomputed all 24 ball volumes using V_n(1) = (2*pi/n) V_(n-2)(1), with V_0(1)=1 and V_1(1)=2; densities agree to relative tolerance 1e-10. - CONFIRMED | construction lower bound | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [lower-bound-label] N2 checker: Each displayed Gram matrix defines an actual lattice packing with the calculated density. Its density is a lower bound for both the lattice supremum and the unrestricted supremum; selecting unrestricted changes the label, not the construction. - CONFIRMED | These are concrete constructions, not values of Klartag's theorem. | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [constructions-not-theorem] N2 checker: The lattice calculation never uses c_K. Only ratioStats reads the reader-selected comparison constants. The page explicitly labels the slider hypothetical. - CONFIRMED | The theorem's constant is not numerically evaluated in the paper, so its bound belongs on the page as algebra until a reader explicitly chooses a hypothetical value. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [constant-not-evaluated] N2 checker: The paragraph after Theorem 1.1 points to future numerical computation of c; Remark 5.3 proposes simulations to compute it. Read both passages. Controls: the full text finds "computed numerically" and "randomized algorithm", and contains Theorem 1.1; the paper gives no evaluated theorem constant. - CONFIRMED | Every row below has the common exponential factor 2-n removed. Ratios are between the displayed leading expressions only. They are not finite-dimension density estimates. | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [ratio-scope] N2 checker: ratioStats divides the leading expressions c_K*n^2, c_R*n, 0.5*n*log(log(n)) and 0.5*n*log(n). At n=100, c_K=0.10 and c_R=0.74 the UI prints "K/R = (c_K/c_R)n = 13.51351; K/V = (c_K/(1/2))n/log log n = 13.09604; K/C = (c_K/(1/2))n/log n = 4.34294." Algebra independently agrees. - CONFIRMED | In two dimensions the symmetric matrix A = [[a,b],[b,d]] has three degrees of freedom. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [two-dimensional-parameters] N2 checker: The source gives n(n+1)/2 symmetric-matrix parameters. Substituting n=2 gives three entries a, b, d. Read the introduction and equation (13). - CONFIRMED | Its ellipsoid is xᵀAx < 1. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [ellipsoid-equation] N2 checker: Equation (9) defines the open set by A x dot x < 1. The source requires positive definiteness to call that set an ellipsoid; the chamber separately checks it. - MINOR | Any nonzero integer point inside is forbidden. | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [forbidden-integer-points] X1; lattice-free-tolerance; decision=fix; reread=true. Re-read public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html:889-898 (unchanged from 37f55e39f6): "var tolerance = 1e-7;" and "if (q < 1 - tolerance) interior.push({ x:x, y:y, q:q });". The mathematical exclusion rule is strict, but this chamber uses a numerical tolerance. Independently ran the shipped default walk: after 16 steps its six counted contacts all have q=0.9999999. Keep MINOR and cheaply qualify the chamber description, its other strict-certification wording, and the verifier message with the implemented tolerance; do not change the mathematical definition or the calculation. - CONFIRMED | Each contact becomes a linear constraint, and future seeded steps are projected to preserve its quadratic value. | public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html; git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [contact-projection] Fixer: current wording makes the unchanged 1e-7 predicate explicit; the shipped renderer and default walk were rerun. N2 checker on the original wording: orthonormalConstraintRows forms [x^2,2xy,y^2] and projectedDirection subtracts its orthogonal components. The seeded path preserves the resulting fixed quadratic values. Contacts use tolerance 1e-7, as detailed in F1. - CONFIRMED | positive means positive-definite only with positive trace | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [positive-trace] N2 checker: Read the downloaded Trinity College lecture PDF, page 37. Its criterion requires both positive determinant and positive trace for a symmetric 2 by 2 matrix. The code equivalently tests the smaller eigenvalue, with a numerical threshold. - CONFIRMED | positive means positive-definite only with positive trace | https://www.maths.tcd.ie/~dwilkins/Courses/MA2321/MA2321_Mich2017_Lectures/MA2321_Mich2017_Lecture23.pdf | [positive-definite-condition] N2 checker: Read the downloaded Trinity College lecture PDF, page 37. Its criterion requires both positive determinant and positive trace for a symmetric 2 by 2 matrix. The code equivalently tests the smaller eigenvalue, with a numerical threshold. - CONFIRMED | Ellipsoid area | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [area-identity] N2 checker: Equation (10) gives volume det(A)^(-1/2) times unit-ball volume. In two dimensions this is pi/sqrt(det(A)); initial det=2.24 gives area 2.09906489. - CONFIRMED | from the minimum eigenvalue | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [chamber-caption-38] N2 checker: inspectEllipsoid bounds any point with q <= 1+tol by Euclidean norm sqrt((1+tol)/lambda_min), then searches the complete square up to the ceiling. The initial and frozen cutoffs are 1 and 2. - CONFIRMED | opposite points counted separately | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [chamber-caption-41] N2 checker: The nested enumeration retains both signs, pairs selects one sign, rows are [x^2,2xy,y^2], and rankRows computes their rank. The returned free count is "free:3 - rank". These counts are correct for the implemented tolerance criterion. - CONFIRMED | one per opposite pair at most | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [chamber-caption-44] N2 checker: The nested enumeration retains both signs, pairs selects one sign, rows are [x^2,2xy,y^2], and rankRows computes their rank. The returned free count is "free:3 - rank". These counts are correct for the implemented tolerance criterion. - CONFIRMED | three symmetric-matrix parameters minus rank | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [chamber-caption-47] N2 checker: The nested enumeration retains both signs, pairs selects one sign, rows are [x^2,2xy,y^2], and rankRows computes their rank. The returned free count is "free:3 - rank". These counts are correct for the implemented tolerance criterion. - CONFIRMED | This chamber verifies its own path and invariants. It is not a replay of the high-dimensional stochastic proof. | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [chamber-invariants] N2 checker: Read the projected, seeded finite-step walk and independent verifier enumeration. The page explicitly distinguishes it from the stochastic proof. Its own exclusion/contact predicate uses tolerance 1e-7, so strict lattice-freedom is a separate precision issue F1. - CONFIRMED | Klartag's process uses Brownian motion in the full symmetric-matrix space and probabilistic estimates over random lattices. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [brownian-proof] N2 checker: The introduction describes a random covolume-normalized lattice and Dyson Brownian motion in symmetric matrices, subject to contact constraints. Sections 2 and 5 supply the process and random-lattice estimates; the excerpt is present. - CONFIRMED | The chamber only makes the determinant, exclusion, contact, and degrees-of-freedom mechanism operable. | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [chamber-mechanisms] N2 checker: Read the projected, seeded finite-step walk and independent verifier enumeration. The page explicitly distinguishes it from the stochastic proof. Its own exclusion/contact predicate uses tolerance 1e-7, so strict lattice-freedom is a separate precision issue F1. - CONFIRMED | Two independent live certificates meet here. The packing bench recomputes a Gram determinant, a globally shortest lattice vector, a sphere radius, a ball volume, and a density. The chamber derives a finite lattice cutoff from the minimum eigenvalue, tests every integer point inside it, and recomputes every contact equation. | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [live-certificates] N2 checker: packingStats recomputes the construction quantities and inspectEllipsoid independently enumerates integer points and computes contact rows. Both execute in the rerun. The word contact here inherits the numerical tolerance discussed in F1. - CONFIRMED | The Klartag constant cK is unknown. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [constant-slider-unknown] N2 checker: The paragraph after Theorem 1.1 points to future numerical computation of c; Remark 5.3 proposes simulations to compute it. Read both passages. Controls: the full text finds "computed numerically" and "randomized algorithm", and contains Theorem 1.1; the paper gives no evaluated theorem constant. - CONFIRMED | Its slider is a reader-chosen hypothetical value, never a published estimate. | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [hypothetical-slider] N2 checker: The lattice calculation never uses c_K. Only ratioStats reads the reader-selected comparison constants. The page explicitly labels the slider hypothetical. - CONFIRMED | The Rogers slider is also a comparison choice. The separate check prints the published proof value 2/e live. | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [rogers-slider] N2 checker: The publisher gives the Rogers proof guarantee c >= 2/e; the separate c_R slider is labelled a comparison choice. Independently, 2/e=0.7357588823428847, rendered as 0.7357588823. This is a valid guaranteed constant, not a claim of sharpness. - CONFIRMED | The separate check prints the published proof value 2/e live. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [rogers-constant] N2 checker: The publisher gives the Rogers proof guarantee c >= 2/e; the separate c_R slider is labelled a comparison choice. Independently, 2/e=0.7357588823428847, rendered as 0.7357588823. This is a valid guaranteed constant, not a claim of sharpness. - CONFIRMED | Terms written o(1) are asymptotic statements, not finite-dimension error bars. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [little-o] N2 checker: The introduction defines o(1) as a quantity tending to zero as dimension tends to infinity. No finite-dimension error guarantee is inferred from it on this page. - OBSERVED | The construction catalogue is frozen to the Nebe-Sloane records retrieved on 29 July 2026. | git show a77c45dd68:research/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/README.md | [retrieval-freeze] N2 checker: The pinned research README says "Checked on 29 July 2026. The page makes no network request and freezes every cited status to that retrieval date." This supports the historical checking/retrieval event. The construction data are embedded, and the live core still matches them. - CONFIRMED | The page uses named exact constructions, not a claim to list the best construction in every dimension. | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [catalogue-scope] N2 checker: latticeForDimension selects the fixed named constructions rather than a best-known table. In particular D_n is used at nonspecial dimensions and is explicitly described as a construction lower bound. - CONFIRMED | Floating arithmetic is used after exact integer Gram data are loaded. | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [floating-arithmetic] N2 checker: The matrices contain exact integers, while determinant, Cholesky, square roots, gamma recurrence and densities use JavaScript Number arithmetic. This disclosure is accurate; it does not itself state the chamber contact tolerance. - CONFIRMED | The offline verifier recomputes determinants with exact integer arithmetic. | git show a77c45dd68:research/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/verify-the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching.mjs | [exact-offline-determinant] N2 checker: The verifier maps every matrix entry through BigInt and uses exact Bareiss elimination. The independently recomputed determinants agree in all 24 dimensions. - CONFIRMED | The two-dimensional seeded walk is a free pedagogical choice. It preserves its own contacts and exclusion invariant but does not simulate the theorem's probability law. | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [seeded-walk-choice] N2 checker: Read the projected, seeded finite-step walk and independent verifier enumeration. The page explicitly distinguishes it from the stochastic proof. Its own exclusion/contact predicate uses tolerance 1e-7, so strict lattice-freedom is a separate precision issue F1. - CONFIRMED | The exact unrestricted packing optimum is known only in dimensions 1, 2, 3, 8, and 24. It remains open in all other dimensions. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [solved-dimensions] N2 checker: Klartag lists the nontrivial solved unrestricted dimensions 2, 3, 8 and 24. The dimension-24 paper explicitly adds the trivial one-dimensional case; these sources support the page list. The individual optimal-density claims below were also checked. - CONFIRMED | The exact lattice optimum is also unknown in general. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [lattice-optimum] N2 checker: Klartag defines delta_n as the lattice-packing supremum and describes the gap between its known lower and upper bounds. This supports unknown in general; it does not claim that every low-dimensional lattice optimum is unknown. - CONFIRMED | The lower scale c n² 2-n remains exponentially separated from the asymptotic upper scale 2-(α + o(1))n, where α is about 0.5990. | https://arxiv.org/html/1212.5966 | [exponential-gap] N2 checker: Cohn and Zhao equation (1.1) has exponential upper rate 0.5990... . Comparing it with c*n^2*2^(-n) gives ratio 2^((1-0.5990+o(1))*n)/(c*n^2), which grows exponentially. - CONFIRMED | Klartag does not numerically evaluate the universal constant produced by the proof. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [unknown-universal-constant] N2 checker: The paragraph after Theorem 1.1 points to future numerical computation of c; Remark 5.3 proposes simulations to compute it. Read both passages. Controls: the full text finds "computed numerically" and "randomized algorithm", and contains Theorem 1.1; the paper gives no evaluated theorem constant. - CONFIRMED | The paper conjectures an analogous lattice-free conclusion for every origin-symmetric convex body of the stated volume scale. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [convex-body-conjecture] N2 checker: Read the paragraph following Theorem 1.2: the proposed extension is to every origin-symmetric convex body satisfying equation (4), whose volume scale is c*n^2. It is explicitly a conjecture. - CONFIRMED | The paper does not supply an explicit efficiently computable family attaining the theorem's scale. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [no-efficient-family] N2 checker: Remark 5.3 suggests a randomized construction and future simulations; it does not give an explicitly analyzed efficient family attaining the bound. Searches for "efficient" and "explicitly computable" return zero, with positive controls "randomized algorithm" and "Theorem 1.1" found in the same extracted full article. - CONFIRMED | The offline check lifts the shipped browser functions from this file, sweeps them against separately written reference implementations, verifies the published construction invariants, and confirms that a deliberately mutated interior-point inequality is caught. Run node research/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/verify-the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching.mjs. | git show a77c45dd68:research/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/verify-the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching.mjs | [offline-verifier-method] N2 checker: Ran the pinned verifier: exit 0, 431 PASS, 0 FAIL. It extracts the shipped math core and walk functions, compares exact Bareiss determinants and separate reference computations, then applies and detects an in-memory boundary/interior mutation. The served verifier is byte-identical. No preprinted verifier transcript is on the page. - CONFIRMED | Boaz Klartag. “Lattice packing of spheres in high dimensions using a stochastically evolving ellipsoid.” Inventiones Mathematicae 244, 1251-1279. Catalogue of Lattices, RWTH Aachen. The exact A2, E8, and Leech Gram records used as versioned construction data report determinants and minimal norms that this page recomputes rather than trusts. Retrieved 29 July 2026. data catalogue | https://www.math.rwth-aachen.de/~Gabriele.Nebe/LATTICES/index.html | [citation-catalogue] N2 checker: The catalogue names both Nebe and Sloane and RWTH Aachen. Downloaded and compared all 644 Gram entries for A2, E8 and Leech. Its determinant/minimum data are respectively (3,2), (1,2), (1,4), all independently recomputed. The 29 July retrieval is supported by the committed README. - CONFIRMED | Theorem 1.1 supplies the all-dimensions lattice bound; equations 5, 6, 9, and 10 supply the contact and ellipsoid apparatus. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [theorem-and-equations] N2 checker: Read Theorem 1.1 and all four numbered equations. The theorem supplies the c*n^2*2^(-n) lattice bound; (5) counts boundary points, (6) fixes contacts, (9) defines the open ellipsoid and (10) gives its volume. - CONFIRMED | Historical source for the linear polynomial scale; Klartag records that this proof yields c ≥ 2/e. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [rogers-history] N2 checker: The introduction assigns the linear polynomial improvement to Rogers in 1947 and explicitly gives c >= 2/e for his proof; reference 22 identifies the 1947 article. - CONFIRMED | Annals of Mathematics 48, 994-1002, October 1947. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [rogers-pages] N2 checker: Crossref confirms C. A. Rogers, title, volume 48, issue 4, October 1947 and first page 994. Klartag reference 22 supplies the full range 994-1002; his introduction supplies the historical bound and guarantee 2/e. The record correctly splits these supporting facts across sources. - CONFIRMED | Source for the sparse-sequence lattice limsup bound. | https://math.stanford.edu/~akshay/research/sp.pdf | [venkatesh-limsup] N2 checker: Read the downloaded author-hosted PDF, p. 1. Theorem 1 gives infinitely many dimensions with c_n > (1/2)*n*log(log(n)); the introduction defines c_n as the volume of a nonzero-integer-point-free ellipsoid, equivalent to lattice packing density c_n*2^(-n). - CONFIRMED | Source for the unrestricted asymptotic (1/2 - o(1)) n log n 2-n scale. | https://arxiv.org/abs/2312.10026 | [campos-bound] N2 checker: The abstract gives (1-o(1))*d*log(d)/2^(d+1) for a packing of identical spheres. This equals (1/2-o(1))*d*log(d)*2^(-d), without a lattice restriction. - CONFIRMED | The current arXiv record lists no journal reference. | https://arxiv.org/abs/2312.10026 | [campos-journal] N2 checker: The arXiv record confirms all four authors, title and submission on 15 December 2023. Its abstract gives (1-o(1))*d*log(d)/2^(d+1), equal to the page expression. Journal-reference search is negative here and positive in the identically extracted Cohn-Zhao arXiv record, which says "Journal reference:" followed by the Duke citation. - CONFIRMED | Source for the factor-two improvement to Venkatesh's sparse ideal-lattice construction. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [gargava-factor-two] N2 checker: Klartag explicitly says the coefficient 1/2 in his displayed Venkatesh limsup equation (3) was improved to 1 by Gargava and Viazovska. The source introduction defines delta_n as the lattice supremum, so the page superscript L is appropriate. - CONFIRMED | The paper does not supply a numerical c. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [check-theorem-no-c] N2 checker: The paragraph after Theorem 1.1 points to future numerical computation of c; Remark 5.3 proposes simulations to compute it. Read both passages. Controls: the full text finds "computed numerically" and "randomized algorithm", and contains Theorem 1.1; the paper gives no evaluated theorem constant. - CONFIRMED | by the finite Blichfeldt bound used here. | https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00222-026-01412-w | [blichfeldt-comparison] N2 checker: Klartag quotes delta_n <= ((n+2)/2)*2^(-n/2) and says these upper bounds also apply to non-lattice packings. blichfeldtUpper computes that expression, capped at the trivial bound 1, and the scope switch uses it correctly. - CONFIRMED | The proposed matrix is not positive-definite, so it does not define a bounded ellipsoid. | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [unbounded-matrix] N2 checker: A real symmetric matrix with a nonpositive eigenvalue makes x^T A x < 1 unbounded. The rejection branch is therefore correct; the code also rejects tiny positive eigenvalues below its numerical threshold, outside the valid controlled states used here. - CONFIRMED | No lattice contacts yet. The seeded walk can expand until the first one arrives. | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [no-contacts] N2 checker: The initial matrix [1.6,0,1.4] has minimum quadratic value 1.4 and no contacts. Re-read inspectEllipsoid at public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html:889-898 and the emitted verdict at :1288: "valid and exhaustively ℤ²-free". The rejection test is "if (q < 1 - tolerance)" with tolerance 1e-7. The independently reproduced frozen state is accepted despite six q=0.9999999 points. Keep MINOR under the rule for overclaims about the page checking; replace strict certification with an explicit numerical-tolerance verdict, including equivalent status messages. - CONFIRMED | rejected by the positive-definiteness or lattice check | public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html; git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [invalid-verdict] Fixer: current wording makes the unchanged 1e-7 predicate explicit; the shipped renderer and default walk were rerun. N2 checker on the original wording: For accepted current states the code rejects proposals that fail the positive-eigenvalue test or contain a point with q<1-1e-7. Positive control [0.9,0,1] is rejected with interior points; the prior accepted state is retained. - CONFIRMED | Frozen: three independent contact constraints at tolerance 1e-7 leave no symmetric-matrix motion. | public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html; git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [frozen] Fixer: current wording makes the unchanged 1e-7 predicate explicit; the shipped renderer and default walk were rerun. N2 checker on the original wording: The three rows for pairs (0,1), (1,0), (1,1) have rank three, leaving zero linear motion preserving their quadratic values. The code disables stepping when free=0. The word contact uses the tolerance described in F1. - CONFIRMED | Accepted: the full eigenvalue-certified lattice search found no forbidden point beyond tolerance 1e-7. | public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html; git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [slider-accepted] Fixer: current wording makes the unchanged 1e-7 predicate explicit; the shipped renderer and default walk were rerun. N2 checker on the original wording: The handler accepts only inspectEllipsoid(trial).valid after exhaustive enumeration. Its forbidden-point test uses q<1-1e-7, so this accurately reports that test; strict geometric certification needs the F1 qualification. - CONFIRMED | Rejected: that change would lose positive-definiteness or put a nonzero lattice point inside beyond tolerance 1e-7. | public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html; git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [slider-rejected] Fixer: current wording makes the unchanged 1e-7 predicate explicit; the shipped renderer and default walk were rerun. N2 checker on the original wording: certifiedStep either accepts an inspected proposal, uses 52 bisection iterations to find an accepted step, or returns false for zero motion/tiny allowable length. The displayed status follows that return value; its certified label refers to the implemented numerical test. - CONFIRMED | No admissible motion remains in that seeded direction. | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html | [direction-stuck] N2 checker: certifiedStep either accepts an inspected proposal, uses 52 bisection iterations to find an accepted step, or returns false for zero motion/tiny allowable length. It counts paths and estimates their connective constant. The nearby note is a loose thematic description; retain the checker MINOR and cheaply describe the two actual lattice computations. scripts/nearby-layers.mjs:97-111 prefers this layer own relates notes over incoming notes. Re-read git show 37f55e39f6:src/content/strata/viazovska-magic.md:13: "this one builds the exact upper-bound certificate in dimension eight and watches the two meet." Its body at :22-35 describes the Cohn-Elkies ceiling and the Viazovska function. Re-read this layer HTML:8: "Build an exact lattice packing from its Gram matrix in every dimension from 1 through 24" and its reversed nearby note at :602. The note shown here assigns the construction lower bounds to the linked Viazovska page, which reverses the two roles. Keep WRONG and fix using explicit page names and dimensions. Coefficients are rounded to six decimals and q to nine; the unrounded matrix gives q=0.9999999, not an exact boundary value. The displayed calculation is observed, while calling these points exact contacts is the separate MINOR finding F1. This emitted row was omitted from N1; the same literal search finds its frozen 0/6 count claim. - OBSERVED | (added) (1, 0) and (-1, 0): 1.000000·1 + 2·-0.500000·0 + 1.000000·0 = 0.999999900 | git show a77c45dd68:public/strata/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/index.html (line 1282); recreated: node reproduce.mjs | [added-contact-equation-2] N2 checker: Recreated the default frozen output. Qualified the chamber title, step button, frontmatter plain description and regenerated page plain meta. The research README now states the same predicates. No dated page line for this MINOR change. - [fixed] X2, lattice-free-tolerance, MINOR: the live verdict, accepted/rejected slider messages, step/run/reduced-motion messages and frozen status now name the numerical tolerance. The source verifier and its published copy now say every shipped walk state is valid at tolerance 1e-7, instead of claiming strict lattice-freedom. The tested predicate and mathematical code are unchanged. No dated page line for this MINOR change. - [open note:81fdbf] X3, walk-packing-description, MINOR: this layer's forward relation and nearby block now distinguish lattice-point enumeration from self-avoiding-path enumeration. The original claim that both pages are about a packing question still survives in the authored relation at src/content/strata/a-hundred-billion-walks.md:16. That page describes counting self-avoiding paths and estimating their connective constant at public/strata/a-hundred-billion-walks/index.html:194-202. Landing prefers that layer's own relation, so rebuilding Nearby boxes will retain its old wording. The other layer is outside this worker's permitted edit scope; the directing instance must obtain the board note id and arrange its correction. No dated page line for this MINOR change. - [fixed] X4, reversed-packing-roles, WRONG: added a forward relation naming The Ellipsoid That Kept Touching as the source of construction lower bounds in dimensions 1 through 24 and The Function That Left No Room as the page studying the sharp upper bound in dimension eight. Regenerated this layer nearby block; added one Corrected 2026-10-18 line in the HTML Corrections section and mirrored it at the end of the markdown body, crediting the assay line. Set JSON-LD dateModified to 2026-10-18. Other layers and shared generators were not edited. - [fixed] X5, lattice-free-tolerance, MINOR: accessible ellipsoid text now says the matrix passes the lattice check at tolerance 1e-7 and calls its six frozen contacts contacts within that tolerance. Rank three and zero remaining degrees of freedom are preserved. No dated page line for this MINOR change. - [fixed] X6, lattice-free-tolerance, MINOR: the live certificate now labels interior counts with q < 1 - 1e-7 and contacts with abs(q - 1) <= 1e-7. The frozen values remain det=0.74999985, lambda_min=0.49999995, cutoff=2, interior=0 and contacts=6 for these stated predicates. Independent strict comparisons find six interior points and zero exact boundary points. No replacement figure or dated page line was needed. ## Verification The required triage validation printed "6 items 0 incomplete" before editing the layer. The layer verifier, node research/the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching/verify-the-ellipsoid-that-kept-touching.mjs, exited 0 with 431 PASS and 0 FAIL and caught its deliberate in-memory mutation. The page math core and seeded-walk functions remain byte-identical to 37f55e39f6. An additional VM probe ran the shipped renderer in the initial and frozen states: the default walk froze after 16 steps at A=[0.9999999,-0.49999995,0.9999999], and the displayed labels state the tolerance used for their counts. The unchanged nearby-layers.mjs and plain-cards.mjs generators ran in a scratch tree containing only this layer HTML output; both subsequent --check runs reported zero pending pages.
