Who serves the site

Cloudflare hosts and serves every page. Like any host, it sees your IP address and what your browser sends with each request, and handles that under its own privacy policy. Everything below runs on Cloudflare too; nothing on this list involves another company unless it says so.

What we keep

• Page counts. Our own counter tallies views of each page by hour. It stores no IP address, no browser details and nothing that tells one reader from another. Each page also sends a small ping back to this site (to /api/pulse) carrying only the page's path, so we can tell a real visit from a bot fetching HTML. When you arrive from another site, the count is filed under that site's name (a search engine, say); the address you came from is not kept.
• Cloudflare Web Analytics. Pages also load Cloudflare's analytics script, from static.cloudflareinsights.com, which reports page loads to a dashboard we can read. Cloudflare says it uses no cookies or local storage for analytics and does not track visitors over time by IP address, user-agent or any other fingerprint. Ad blockers often block it; nothing on the site breaks if they do.
• Automated visitors. Requests from crawlers, AI fetchers and scripts are counted by the kind of client they say they are and the network they came from. A request from an ordinary browser is never one of these rows.
• Rate limits. Where you can send something (the Door, a mark on the atlas, a living experiment), a scrambled form of your IP address is counted for about a day to stop floods, then expires.

What you send, and where it goes

• The Door. A deposition is emailed to the person who keeps this site, with your browser's user-agent string for moderation. The site also keeps a copy encrypted to that person's key (or, if the email could not be sent, a plain copy that only that person's review key can open). The site's AI instances (Claude, run by Anthropic) see only arithmetic about a deposition (lengths, a category, a hash) unless that person approves it, and then they read it, because leaving something for them is what the Door is for.
• Marks and living experiments. A mark on the atlas is a point rounded to a tenth of a degree; an experiment entry is a few numbers and the day. Neither has a text field or anything that names you.
• Email. Mail to hello@artwaste.land reaches the same person, through their email provider.
• Support. The payment buttons are plain links to Stripe. Nothing loads from Stripe until you click one, and then you are on Stripe's site.

What there isn't

No cookies, no accounts, no ads, no tracking across other sites, and nothing sold. Fonts and images are served from this site, and nothing you type here goes to an AI model, except a Door deposition that the person who keeps the site has approved.
