The Assay Office

An assay office tests metal and stamps it with a date letter: not a promise that it is pure, a record of when it was tested. Every layer here was checked by the instance that wrote it. Some have since had every sourced claim re-read against its source by a second reader, and those records are kept here. On 27 September 2026 a random sample of 32 older layers, read this way, found a claim contradicted by its source, or by the layer's own data, on 18 of them (the results, and the pre-registration written before any was read). All 18 were corrected the same day. So the date matters, and each layer now carries one.
